Asheville for 3 nights
No big summer vacation this year for reasons too complex to explain. Instead, we picked somewhere we had never been and decided to explore Asheville, NC. We started by choosing a B&B – Carolina Bed and Breakfast – in the historic Montford district of Asheville. We pick our B&Bs randomly and usually do very well – we love to travel this way because you meet local folks as well some new faces from all over the place. You can share ideas on what to do and where to eat. This one had free wine and superb apps each evening which was a bonus. I’ll spread our trip out over a few posts, but will share two of my favorite things NOW.
First, a terrific restaurant that i wish would move to Charlottesville, Nine Mile Restaurant.Huge portions, great food, and reasonably priced. As in way cheaper than C’ville. We ate there two of the three nights and i am now trying to replicate their tahini/garlic dressing without much success.
Second, a 5 mile loop hike to John Rock in the Pisgah National Forest. Challenging hike, beautiful view and worth all the sweating. The accompanying photo is from that hike. We followed the trail with orange blazes. It felt good to be away together, doing normal things like hiking and eating out. We are probably one of the few who travel to Asheville and don’t care to see the Biltmore. More photos from our other activities later on.
